To the previous poster, on Jan Lewan's page it clearly references THE MAN WHO WOULD BE POLKA KING movie based on the COURT TV special which actually interviews a number of the people who lost their investments with Lewan. It states on the page:
"THE MAN WHO WOULD BE POLKA KING is an irreverent look at the rise and fall of Grammy-nominated polka music star Jan Lewan, whose defection from Poland to the West in the 1970’s led to fame, fortune and an international Polka Empire.
But when Lewan's empire collapsed under a cloud of scandal, the polka world was stunned to learn of the greatest polka-related financial crime in history."
Of course this is a polka website NOT A Ponzi Scheme website, so I definitely concentrated on the MUSIC not the business/bankruptcy/jail aspects. I had never heard of Jan Lewan till 2008 but I have watched the movie and a Jan Lewan history DVD as well as interviews Jan Lewan has done since his release. While this is a tragedy both to Jan Lewan and his investors he did serve his time and I wish him the best for the future. As far as I am concerned, as an outsider, if something is too good to be true it probably is, From what I have heard people knew they were investing in Jan Lewan, his polka band and gift shop. When such enterprises go bankrupt people lose their money. Yes, Jan Lewan ignored warnings from the securites commissions to stop, and that's why he went to jail. Tragedy, certainly, for all involoved, but I still think the music is great and whatever you think you can't argue that it is not a fascinating story.
