Salzburger Echo

Salzburger Echo brings the Alps to their audiences, playing Old World and contemporary folk music from the alpine regions of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. They continue to amaze audiences with their twelve-foot alphorns, Swiss cowbells, holzernes g'lächter and harmony yodeling. Performances in authentic costuming are musically enjoyable and visually exciting! Together since 1992, Salzburger Echo has played many venues and festivals throughout the United States and Europe. They are one of the most sought after Alpine bands in the nation. Festivals such as Oktoberfest in Mt. Angel, Oregon; Snowbird's Annual Oktoberfest (Snowbird, UT); Wurstfest in New Braunfels, Texas; Houston Oktoberfest at the Garden In The Heights, Houston, Texas; and Snake River Brewing Company Jackson, WY invite Salzburger Echo back year after year because of their energy, wit and outstanding musicianship.

Salzburger Echo also delivers an engaging program for grades K-12 and is certified by ARTS Inc. (formerly Young Audiences Inc. of Utah). From backyard parties to live TV and radio performances in Europe and practically every venue in between, Salzburger Echo is the perfect band for all of your festival, party, and concert needs. Gunther Zeilinger, accordion instructor and official representative of Hof, Germany, was stunned by the musicianship and outright flair of the 2000 Ogden, Utah Hof Winterfest. He stated: "You know, in Germany there are some 3,500 accordion orchestras, and I tell you, these Salzburger Echo guys are right up there with the best of them."

Band Members

Tony Brazelton -- Trumpet, Alphorn

Tony has been playing the trumpet for over 35 years, and is the heart and soul of the group. Tony handles booking, scheduling, and most of the logistics for the band's daily operations. He is also the secretary/treasurer of the American Federation of Musicians Local 104 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Steve Keen -- Accordion

What would a polka band be without the accordion? Steve is the foundation of the group's musical offering. He has played accordion, jazz piano, and keyboards professionally for over 30 years. He is also active as a professional photographer and a maker of custom contact frames. Some of his work can be seen at stephenkeenphotography.com.

Mark Pyper -- Euphonium, Cowbells, Alphorn, Vocals

The life of the band, Mark's humor and on-stage antics delight audiences of all ages. From the lively harmonization of the euphonium to the amazing yodeling, Mark is the band's front man. He has been playing brass instruments and performing in vocal and instrumental ensembles since the age of five. Mark was featured as a soloist on several occasions as a member of the University of Utah Marching Band. Mark is also an executive with the Target corporation.

Matt Pyper -- Flugel Horn, Holzernes G'lächter, Alphorns, Vocals

As the vocal lead, Matt is the voice of the band. The authenticity of the Echo's sound is enhanced by his ability to speak fluently in German. Mark's older brother, Matt has also been performing with various musical ensembles since age five. Matt sang with the Brigham Young University Men's Chorus in 1996, and as a member of the Utah National Guard, he performed with the 23rd Army Band for several years.
